Admissions Procedures

To apply for admission to the Master of Science with concentrations in Health Informatics, Knowledge Management or User Experience Design, please provide the items requested below.

1. Application

Online University Application: The online application is the primary means of applying for admission to graduate study at Kent State University. For each online application option, students are required to create an account, which allows them to save the application and track the progress of materials submitted via the application system. For more information, see the instructions on the application.

The Master of Science is offered through the College of Communication and Information. You will find it listed under "college" in the application. 

International Students: Follow the same university application, but choose the path for international students, which provides you with more information about university requirements for admission for all international applicants. The International Application Page provides a checklist of requirements in addition to the IAKM admission requirements on this page.

English Language Proficiency: All international applicants whose education has been primarily outside the United States must provide objective evidence of proficiency in the English language with some exceptions. If you would like to determine whether you will be required to submit TOEFL or IELTS scores, see the English Language Proficiency page on the International Admissions site.

2. Official transcripts

An official transcript from each college/university in which eight (8) semester hours or more were earned (except for Kent State University) is required. Official transcripts are not issued directly to the student but are sent at the student’s request to the graduate admissions office (address below).

3. Resume / curriculum vita

4. Statement of Purpose: A typed, double-spaced statement of no more than 1,000 words describing the following:

  • Why you are interested in the certificate program 
  • How your background experience and/or education has prepared you for the program
  • Your career goals
  • How the program will help actualize your professional objectives.

5. Three (3) letters of recommendation: Submit letters on the required form or electronically through the online application system.
