Graduate Assistantships
Applications must be submitted on or before March 1 prior to the fall semester when assistantships begin. Only those applicants who have been admitted to the M.L.I.S. program by March 1 will be considered for assistantships. back to top

Students MUST complete this form and obtain their advisor’s signature prior to registering for a workshop. Students MUST earn an “S†(Satisfactory) in a workshop in order to count the credit(s) toward the M.L.I.S.

Students may not earn degree credit for SLIS workshops which overlap in content with regular SLIS course offerings which they have completed. This document indicates the overlaps.

Elective Practicum
Elective Course: LIS 60692 Practicum: Below are links to the Handbook to guide you through the process of completing the Elective LIS 60692 Practicum Option, the Request Form, the practicum Site Directory and the practicum Contract.

Elective Practicum Handbook: This handbook is intended to guide students through the process of completing the elective practicum option (LIS 60692). Topics covered include prerequisites, the registration process, the role of the faculty advisor, writing the project proposal, deadlines, grading, how to approach research with human subjects and acceptable research products.

Elective Practicum Request Form: Students must complete this form and have it approved by their faculty practicum advisor. The faculty practicum advisor will then have the student registered for LIS 60692.

Practicum Site Directory: This directory serves as a starting point for students looking to find a practicum site.

Elective Practicum Contract: This form is submitted to the faculty practicum advisor within the first 10 hours of the practicum. The student should describe the proposed schedule of practicum activities on the form.

Culminating Experience (CE) or Thesis Requirement
As part of the M.L.I.S. program requirements, each student must complete LIS 60199 Thesis (6 credit hours) or LIS 60670 Culminating Experience (3 credit hours).
LIS 60199 Thesis

Thesis option: The thesis option is highly recommended for students who plan to pursue a research or a doctoral degree. A thesis is expected to be a substantial and original contribution to knowledge in the field. The Thesis Handbook (below) provides information on the thesis requirements, selection of advisor and committee members, and thesis procedures and timelines.

Culminating Experience Master’s Practicum: Below you'll find links to the Handbooks for the CE Master’s Practicum Option (LIS 60670) for M.L.I.S. students and K-12 students as well as the practicum Site Directory, the Culminating Experience Practicum Option Request for Approval form, the practicum contract and an E-portfolio section filled with resources and guides.

Practicum Request Form: Students must complete this form and have it approved by their faculty practicum advisor. The faculty practicum advisor will then have the student registered for LIS 60670–Culminating Experience. This form cannot be used for an elective practicum (LIS 60692).

E-portfolio: This section includes resources and guides to free e-portfolio software. Students should use this software to document the practicum activities, objectives, work log and assessment of learning experience to submit to the faculty practicum advisor at the conclusion of their practicum.
