Students can complete an M.L.I.S. degree through eDegree in one of the following specializations:
(1) Children and Young Adult Librarianship
(2) Public Librarianship
(3) K-12 School Library Media Specialist
(4) Museum Studies
While SLIS offers many online courses beyond those listed for the eDegree, which any student can take, eDegree is designed for students intending to complete their entire M.L.I.S. degree online for one of these four specializations. Consequently, eDegree students are guaranteed registration in the online courses required to complete their specialization and will graduate with an M.L.I.S. in a specified timeframe.
Students will be able to complete the online coursework required for both their chosen specialization and the MLIS degree either through the Two-Year Option or the Fast Track Option of the eDegree.
The Two-Year Option requires two courses per semester over six semesters. The Fast Track Option requires three courses per semester for four semesters, although it is also possible to complete all coursework in three semesters with the help from the student’s academic advisor.
For a list of courses offered each semester, please see below
Enrollment deadlines - new eDegree students starting fall 2011, spring 2012 and summer 2012 must enroll by the following dates each semester to guarantee enrollment in their scheduled courses:
Guaranteed Seating Policy
eDegree students starting fall 2011, spring 2012, and summer 2012, have been guaranteed seating in the courses listed on the Courses & Schedules Option page found above. If the student cannot enroll for all or some of the courses as listed each semester, they will still be considered in eDegree, but will no longer be guaranteed seating in the courses they missed that semester. The School will do its best to provide enough seats in each of our classes for all our students, but if a particular course is filled and it is a course that is not listed for that semester as part of the Courses & Schedules Option page, eDegree students will need to follow the waitlist procedure via our website at www.kent.edu/slis >Courses & Schedules>Waitlisting. A staff member will contact the student when a space becomes available.
