2nd Annual M.A.L.E. Initiative Conference
Men focusing on Action, Leadership and Engagement
“Modeling Greatness: It’s in Your Character”
Saturday, March 9th, 2013
8AM – 2PM in the Kent Student Center
| Within the Division of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DDEI), we have an assortment of initiatives designed to enhance persistence to degree completion for all students enrolled. Some of our main initiatives focus on all students as well as specific populations, such as first generation, low income, or non-traditional students. In addition to these, we have initiatives that are gender specific such as those coordinated by the Women’s Center and Sister Circle. Currently, DDEI has two related initiatives for KSU male students. Our first initiative is the Male Empowerment Network (M.E.N.), which specifically focuses on African American, Latino American and Native American males (AALANA). Nationally and in Ohio, AALANA males have the highest rate of college (degree) non-completion than any other demographic enrolled in higher education. Therefore, the M.E.N. initiative focuses on male empowerment initiatives as well as academic success programming for AALANA males. Along with M.E.N., DDEI created the M.A.L.E. (Men focusing on Achievement, Leadership and Engagement) initiative. A component of the M.A.L.E. initiative is the Leadership Conference. M.A.L.E’s focus is to provide an inclusive venue for all KSU males, with three focus points: a) learning from and working with one another (team work), b) engaging and uplifting society (civic and community service/responsibility/leadership), and c) the transition to graduate school and/or the workforce (life after college). |
