Housing and Dining

Living on campus does more than get you to class on time (although that helps, too).

Being part of the Kent Campus community means professors, friends, technology and activities are right in your backyard -- or just down the hall. Living on campus provides students an opportunity to learn about other cultures and lifestyles, form lifelong friendships and make lasting memories.  Students living on campus have a unique opportunity to take advantage of a wealth of programs and events occurring in their residence hall including but not limited to guest speakers, special programs and events and academic tutoring.

Housing Quick Facts

  • All Kent State students live on campus for the first two years.
  • The Department of Residence Services uses a housing application process that allows students to request a specific individual as a roommate or to search for a roommate using different criteria (major, sleeping habits, etc.)
  • Residence Services operates a security program recognized for their excellence.  Security aides conduct periodic rounds through all residence halls nightly between 8 p.m. and 4 a.m.  Additionally, during these hours the security program operates a campus escort program in which students may call for an escort to walk with them across campus.
  • Every room comes with telephone and cable connections; additionally, each residence hall has its own laundry facilities.
  • All residence halls provide high-speed network access from each residence hall room to the university’s computer resources and to the internet.  In addition, the ResNet office includes The Tech Spot offering a complete personal computer care center for Kent State students, faculty and staff.
  • There are six residence hall computer labs in operation in addition to the numerous computer labs in academic and administrative buildings across campus.

Housing Support

Your first residence experience can be exciting, stressful, challenging or a little bit of all three. The START SMART program offers services provided by Residence Services through the Eastway Outreach Center located inside Manchester and Fletcher halls. Services are available to all Kent State students (living on- or off-campus). Students will receive information about these services throughout the fall semester to ease transition into their college experience. The goal of this program is to provide students with advising, tutoring, reference and resource information important to a student’s living and learning on the Kent Campus.

Choosing a Residence Hall

There are 24 different residence halls open to Kent State students. Compare floor plans. In addition to the traditional residential option, Kent State offers 16 different Residential Learning Communities that allow you to live on-campus in an immersive environment. These include:

Employment and Leadership Opportunity

On campus residents have the opportunity to become involved in their living environment via employment or leadership positions. Residence Services offers employment as a resident assistant, desk receptionist or security aide. Students can also explore leadership opportunities in the governing bodies of their respective residence hall and within Kent Interhall Council.

Eating on Campus

When you live on campus, your dining choices are limited only by your imagination. There’s sushi and fast food, quick dining and a sit-down restaurant, coffee carts and national chains. Your key to accessing all of those options is the FLASHcard.  Your FLASHcard acts as your student identification, meal card and debit card.

Campus Dining Quick Facts

  • Twenty-four on-campus restaurants, dining halls and coffee carts are accessible to students with their FLASHcards.
  • Your FLASHcard is also accepted for some meals and services off campus in the Kent community, such as McDonalds, Pizza Hut and more.
  • First- and second-year students are required to purchase a dining plan per semester.

Dining Costs

Dining plans range from $1,400 to $2,100 per semester and can be selected based on expected purchasing volume and other features. Compare rates
