“Home, Home on the [sahelian] Range: Pastoral Ecologies and National Risksâ€
Tuesday, October 18, 2011
Noon to 1:00 PM
Moulton Hall Ballroom
Dr. Wendy Wilson-Fall, chair and associate professor in the Department of Pan African Studies, will help us think globally about sustainability issues. Her presentation will focus on the unfortunate coincidence of three factors; challenges to nomadic pastoralism, weak government support, and the appearance of Al Qaida in the Sahara desert and the Sahel. The “greening†of Africa depends on understanding the importance of, and committing to, the nurturing of new development models that create strong community level institutions. The savannah and Sahel regions of Africa have potential climate implications for us all.
