Dance Faculty Collaborate on New Interactive Work

Assistant professor of Dance Gregory King and adjunct Dance faculty member Megan Young have collaborated on a new work entitled "Cloud of Whiteness," an interactive sculpture, environment and performance piece that explores racism and resistance in our current political climate.

Conceived, directed and designed by Young, King performs the piece – interacting with movable clay bricks. As King clears and builds the bricks in the performance space, his actions trigger white particulates to fall from an overhead bag. The particulates represent the fog that is often cast over social justice issues and demonstrate the "pushback of whiteness" that occurs within systems of oppression.

The piece will be performed Aug. 18 - 20, 2017 at The Current Sessions in New York as part of the Volume VII: On Resistance exhibit.

The piece was previously performed at Cleveland's SPACES Gallery as part of the First 100+ Days exhibit.
