  1. Is there an orientation program for transfer students?
  2. Are transfer students required to take the FYE course?
  3. Do transfer students participate in the Summer Reading project?
  4. Do I need a Clicker?

  1. Is there an orientation for transfer students?
The Transfer Center will offer orientation for incoming transfer students with less than junior standing admitted for the Fall, 2012 semester. The orientation program will include advising and registration as well as a general introduction to the Kent campus. Please visit www.kent.edu/transfercenter and your Flashline account regularly for more information. Also, invitations to participate in the program will be mailed to the address that Kent State has listed as the student's permanent address. Regional campuses may offer transfer orientation as well, so visit http://www.kent.edu/campuses for additional information.

All Kent Campus transfer students are also welcome to participate in Welcome Weekend events at the start of the Fall semester. Visit http://www.kent.edu/success/futurestudents/index.cfm for more information.

  2. Are transfer students required to take the FYE course?
Transfer students with 24 credit hours or less will register for the First Year Experience course, US 10097. This is a one credit hour, graded course that will help you transition to the university. There are special sections of the course for Exploratory transfer students as well as Adult students.

  3. Do transfer students participate in the Summer Reading project?
Transfer students who are required to take the FYE course are also required to participate in the Summer Reading program, although we encourage all incoming transfer students to read the book. The book will be discussed during the first FYE class session that occurs during Welcome Weekend. To learn more about the book that has been chosen, the program goals, and homework assignment, please visit Summer Reading.

  4. Do I need a Clicker?
All incoming freshman are required to purchase a Clicker which provides students with a more interactive experience in the classroom.  They are increasingly becoming more utilized by KSU faculty. You may want to contact your instructors or get your syllabus to see if one is required.  Visit http://www.kent.edu/fpdc/resources/clicker_suite/index.cfm for more information.
