Transfer Kent State: Orientation, Advising and Registration FAQs

  1. What is Transfer Kent State?
TKS is a required orientation, advising and registration program for incoming, admitted transfer students with 30 earned credit hours or less upon admission. The program is designed to help students make a smooth transition to Kent State University.
  2. What are the dates for TKS?
Early registration dates for TKS Summer and Fall admits are April 22 and May 13. Students should report by 2:00 p.m. and can expect to be on campus until 5:00 p.m. The remaining dates for Summer and Fall admits are June 3, 10, 17, 24; July 8 and 15. Students should report by 8:00 a.m. and are expected to be on campus until 3:00 p.m.
  3. How do I register for TKS?
Once you have been accepted to Kent State, you should set up your Flashline account. Within your account will be a New@KSU tab that will contain a dynamic student checklist. Once your transfer credit evaluation has been completed, students required to attend TKS will have a checklist item informing them of their status and a link to register for the program. The Transfer Center will also send students a letter with information regarding registration. Registration for TKS opens on March 4, 2013.
  4. Is there a fee?
Secure your place as an incoming transfer student by paying your $35 enrollment fee. The fee is due by July 8, 2013. Participation in TKS is not dependent on whether you have payed the fee yet. Within your Flashline account there is a New@KSU tab. This tab will have your "Next Steps" student checklist which will link to payment options for this fee.
  5. What will happen at TKS?
During the program, admitted students will meet with an academic advisor, review their transfer credit, submit an initial Graduation Plan, register for classes, get their Kent Flashcard (ID), get financial aid and payment information as well as participate in a campus tour or “Find My Class” activity.
  6. Where should I park?
Participants can park in the pay lot in front of the Kent Student Center. If that lot is full, park in the Commuter “C” lot off of West Campus Center Drive. You will receive a temporary parking pass in your email that you submitted when you applied to Kent State. The parking pass must be displayed on your dashboard and visible to the parking lot attendant upon your exit.
  7. How should I prepare for my TKS visit?
