Kent State Tuscarawas Golden Eagles Golf

The Kent State University at Tuscarawas men's golf team is comprised of students enrolled for a minimum of 12 hours at the campus. The Golden Eagles competed in spring invitationals hosted by member schools of the Ohio Regional Campus Conference (ORCC) for the last time in 2016, winning six of eight tournaments including the ORCC State Championship.  The Golden Eagles, who are now members of the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) will compete for the USCAA National Championship at Penn State's Blue Course and play all future matches against NCAA Division III, NAIA, USCAA and NCCAA schools.  The Golden Eagle Invitational is held at Oak Shadows Golf Club, located in New Philadelphia, OH.

The year 2016 marks the 12th year of competition for the Golden Eagles who have won a state championship, finished third at the state tournament (2010), won 11 tournament championships and seven runner-up trophies over the course of their existence.  Tryouts are held in July each year to trim the roster to eight (8) golfers.  A spring break golf trip to South Carolina is used to determine the roster for the spring season.  Check out season photos for last year: 2015 Golden Eagles in action.

Each spring the Golden Eagles make a trip to Hickory Knob State Park located in McCormick, South Carolina to ready for the upcoming season. This event is made possible with the help of a corporate sponsor and we are currently looking for a sponsor for the 2016 season.

Hickory Knob is nestled along the shores of Lake Strom Thurmond which serves as a defining feature of this challenging course. The waters of the lake are visible or come into play on every hole of the course. In order to score at Hickory Knob, you have to be prepared to hit a variety of shots. There is a tremendous assortment of slopes, contours, fairway widths, and bunkering, so your 'A' game is necessary when playing this 6560 pro-yardage course which is a par 72 with a slope rating of 123 that winds through the woods.

The Golden Eagle trip is planned around spring break week and allows the team the flexibility to devote a week to tuning up their game while not having to worry about classes. A week after the team returns from the trip the season begins with six (6) consecutive Friday/Saturday combination weekend tournaments.
