Georgia Wrestler Signs with Kent State Tuscarawas

Kent State University at Tuscarawas is announcing the signing of a Northgate High School graduating senior to their wrestling team. The high school is located in Newnan, Georgia. On May 15, Austin Bailey signed a Letter of Intent to wrestle for the Kent State Tuscarawas Golden Eagles Wrestling Team.

Bailey was a three-year letter winner for the Vikings wrestling team. He was a Georgia High School Association State Wrestling Tournament two-time qualifier and compiled a 40-7 record during his final season on the mat for Northgate High School.  He was also a two-time sectional tournament placer, three-time area runner up, three-time Coweta County Champion, was named Most Improved Wrestler his senior year and Most Valuable Wrestler at Northgate his junior year. Bailey recently received the Jeff Jordan Wrestling Scholarship and plans to earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Kent State Tuscarawas.  Off the mat, he was a member of the Spanish Club in high school and carried a solid GPA that was higher than 3.0.

“Kent State Tuscarawas is very, very excited to have Austin choose our campus over several others,” said Dave Schlarb, Head Wrestling Coach for Kent State Tuscarawas. “Coach Wickstrom, the Northgate High School wrestling coach, said we are getting one of his school’s best wrestlers and students and I firmly believe that. That’s why we made the trip to Georgia after his visit to our campus. He and his mother were very thorough in checking out our school and the nursing program and felt this was the best fit for him. His wrestling resume is evidence of his capabilities on the mat and the recommendations we received from his coaches told us we were making a great decision. I expect Austin to come in and compete and set a high level expectation for our program.”

Kent State Tuscarawas is a member of the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA).
