Media Relations and Communications Team

University Communications and Marketing provides professional consultation and resources designed to assist the communications and marketing efforts of programs and departments throughout Kent State University's eight-campus network. This includes media relations and executive communication support by these UCM staffers:

Luke ArmourLuke Armour, Coordinator, Flash Communications, University Communications and Marketing

Luke Armour is the coordinator of Flash Communications, University Communications and Marketing’s student-PR agency and internship experience. Prior to joining Kent State, Armour worked in the digital practice group at Fleishman-Hillard, managing social media, mobile, podcasting and Web strategy and execution for a variety of clients across numerous industries. Armour has served as a PR Coordinator for BlogTalkRadio, an online citizen-broadcasting network, and a PR Account Executive at Innis Maggiore, in Canton, Ohio. Armour holds a master’s degree in Communications from The University of Akron and a bachelor’s degree in Speech Communications from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania.

Bob BurfordBob Burford, Marketing/External Relations Coordinator, University Communications and Marketing

After receiving his bachelor's degree in mass communications from Miami University of Ohio, Bob Burford worked for nearly a decade as an announcer, news director and program director at Ohio and Connecticut radio stations.

He started at Kent State in 1989 as public relations director of 89.7 WKSU, the university's award-winning NPR station. In addition to his duties at UCM, Burford keeps his hand in the radio world as a part-time announcer at WKSU, serving as local anchor of the station's popular Saturday morning programming.

Burford is a past president of the Akron Press Club and the Akron Area Arts Alliance, and currently serves as director of the non-profit Crooked River Fine Arts Council

Eric MansfieldEric Mansfield, Executive Director, University Media Relations, University Communications and Marketing

Prior to joining Kent State University, Eric Mansfield was an Emmy award-winning journalist with WKYC-TV (NBC-Cleveland) for 18 years, most recently as 6/11 weekend news anchor. He is also known for his two years as a reporter-anchor with WAKC-TV (ABC Akron). Mansfield's broadcast awards include recognition from the Ohio Associated Press, Cleveland Press Club and Ohio Broadcaster's Hall of Fame. Since 2007, he has been the host of the weekly reporters' roundtable, "NewsNite," on Western Reserve Public Media. Mansfield is also a retired Major with the Ohio Army National Guard with deployments to Iraq, Hurricane Katrina, Central America and others during a 20-year military career. Later this year, Mansfield will complete his Masters Degree in Public Relations from Kent State University. He has a Bachelor's Degree in Journalism from the University of Dayton, where he was named the Omar Williams Award winner as the university's top broadcasting graduate. 

foluke omosunFoluke Omosun, Internal Communications Specialist, University Communications and Marketing
Before joining Kent State University, Foluke Omosun served as an account executive at AKHIA Public Relations and Marketing in Hudson, Ohio.  At AKHIA, she worked on several business-to-business accounts, planning and implementing public relations and marketing programs, including eCommunications, media relations, and customer and employee communications that supported overall client objectives. Omosun also has several years’ experience working as a TV and print journalist. She has a bachelor’s degree in mass communication from Ahmadu Bello University, Nigeria, and a master’s degree in public relations from Kent State University. Omosun is editor of e-Inside, Kent State’s faculty/staff newsletter.
 

Susan Rogers, Director, Executive Communications, University Communications and Marketing 

In a Kent State career spanning three decades, Susan Rogers has written and edited news releases, magazine articles, ads, reports, event scripts and speeches (her specialty). An alumna of Kent State’s psychology and journalism programs, her work has been recognized in a number of national and international competitions.

emilyEmily Vincent, Director, University Media Relations, University Communications and Marketing

Prior to joining Kent State University in August 2009, Emily Vincent served as a senior account executive at Landau Public Relations in Cleveland. During her time at Landau PR from 2000 to 2009, she planned and executed public relations programs for a variety of consumer, business-to-business, nonprofit and institutional clients. She also worked as an account executive in the Cleveland office of Bozell from 1997 to 2000. For the past five years, Vincent has served on the board of directors for the Greater Cleveland chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA). She has been a committee member of the chapter’s PRSA Cleveland Rocks Awards since its inception in 2003, chairing the awards competition twice. Vincent received a bachelor of science degree in public relations from Kent State.
