Parents

Psychological Services values its relationships with students and their families.  College is a time of transition, and while that is an exciting time it can also be challenging and stressful.   Parents may also be in need of assistance in providing support to their student.  Whether this is the first or last of your children to attend college, there are bound to be times when you feel anxious, frustrated, or challenged by a situation that is taking place in your student’s life. We hope you will help your student find his or her way to us during these times and that you will come to think of us as your partner in helping your student succeed.

The staff at Psychological Services is here to support your student in their academic and personal goals, and provides confidential mental health services to students which include: crisis intervention; individual, couples, and group therapy; psychological testing; and substance abuse evaluation and treatment. Our staff works collaboratively with University Health Services’ medical and psychiatric providers to address medication needs.

Common presenting problems include: difficulty with adjustment to college, academic issues, relationship difficulties, depression, anxiety, body image concerns, eating disorders, sexuality, self-injurious behaviors, and substance-related issues.

Psychological Services is staffed by licensed psychologists and counselors, as well as psychology fellows and graduate interns who are supervised by licensed clinicians.  Our psychologists have training and expertise in general mental health concerns among college students, and have additional expertise in their respective specialties.

We have gathered a variety of information for you in this section of our website, and encourage you to contact us if you have questions.  Please realize, however, that because of confidentiality, our communication with you may be limited, but we are also here to support you and to offer whatever consultation may be helpful.
