Audio Conference: “Promoting an Undergraduate Research Culture”

The Council on Undergraduate Research (CUR) and Inside Higher Ed will be presenting an audio conference entitled “Promoting an Undergraduate Research Culture” on Dec. 12 at 2 p.m. The speaker is Dr. Kerry Karukstis, professor of chemistry at Harvey Mudd College and president of the Council on Undergraduate Research.

The event will include a 30-minute presentation followed by a 30-minute Q&A. During the presentation Karukstis will discuss:

  • How colleges should devise undergraduate research programs consistent with their missions.
  • How to build from a core group of interested faculty members to sustain the program.
  • How the curriculum can support undergraduate research efforts.
  • The importance of celebrating successes and milestones in these programs.
  • How to assess the impact of research programs and to use the results to improve them.

Research and Graduate Studies will cover the cost of the registration fee for the conference and will host the event locally in Room 141 in Cartwright Hall. Members of the Undergraduate Research AQIP Action committee and all academic units with an interest in Undergraduate Research are invited to attend the event. Please feel free to bring a colleague and to pass this information along throughout the Kent State Community.
