The Kent State University Esplanade is part of the solid partnership between Kent State University, the City of Kent, and PARTA. The partnership is built around the economic redevelopment of downtown Kent and improving the quality of life enjoyed by our students, residents, and business community.
This a vital connection between the university and the downtown projects, including PARTA’s new Kent Central Gateway multimodal transit center, private developments from Acorn Alley and Fairmount Properties, and the Kent State University Hotel and Conference Center.
The University Esplanade officially ends at Haymaker Parkway. However, through a coordinated planning effort with the city of Kent, a new crosswalk and traffic signal have been installed to align with the Esplanade on the city road and allow pedestrians to cross Haymaker safely into downtown.
The university and city are already receiving recognition for this collaborative effort. In June of this year, the university and the city received the inaugural award from the International Town-Gown Association (ITGA) that honors the town-gown relationship that best represents the spirit of ITGA.
Wright Hall has a new sky-lounge situated on the 10th floor of the building. The floor has been renovated to house the 3,000 square foot lounge and gathering area. New, larger windows provide natural light into the lounge. In coming years, sky-lounges will be added to Koonce and Leebrick halls.
