The Office of the University Counsel often prepares materials or conducts seminars for the purpose of educating the university community about legal issues. This site contains much of the material from those seminars, as well as materials and opinions from the Office of the University Counsel regarding a variety of issues. CHANGES TO UNIVERSITY TRAVEL POLICY- Go to the policy register site to see the new policies regarding the revised travel policies and the new business expenditures policy.  read more

DOE ANNOUNCES PROPOSED CHANGES TO FERPA -  The U.S. Department of Education released over 20 changes to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act ("FERPA") on March 28, 2008. Administrators and Higher Education experts have until May 8 to comment on the proposed language. read more

DOL ANNOUNCES NEW I-9 FORM -  The Department of Labor recently released a new version of the I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification form. This form is used by the University for every new hire. The Department of Labor also published a handbook for employers to guide them through the amendments to the law and process.  read more

LEGAL BRIEF: ETHICS IN OHIO - SOLICITING AND ACCEPTING GIFTS. The Ohio Ethics Commission and Office of the University Counsel advises that university employees should not solicit or accept any thing of value from parties you regulate or with whom they do business.  read more
