Posted Oct. 4, 2013

The conference celebrates design excellence and helps designers develop their professional practice while examining critical issues that affect the field of design. This year's conference examines the three core elements of modern design practice: Head, design thinking and strategy, Heart, design for social impact, and Hand, design as craft. The speakers at the conference are noted to be some of the best and brightest in their field.

Barness will take part in the design educator sessions, which are educator-only sessions that will discuss how educators can apply "Head, Heart, Hand" to the field of teaching. At her session, she will give a presentation on Interaction Design Education: Bringing Industry Perspectives into Curriculum Development.

Barness will also speak at the HEART: Peer-Reviewed Panel Presentations, which discuss social impact in the context of design education. In her session, she will present Translating Science with Design's Personal Voices: Toward a Critical Collaboration, a paper that was co-authored with David M. Singer from Kent State's Department of Geology. The paper proposes a collaborative design-science educational initiative.

The 'Head, Heart, Hand' conference is open to AIGA members and professionals in the design community. This year's conference will take place October 10-12 at the Minneapolis Convention Center.
