2011 High School and Undergraduate Competition Winners Announced

Congratulations to the winners of the Wick Poetry Center undergraduate and high school competitions. The high school competition winners are:

1st place: Jennifer Walker, Maplewood Career Center ($4,000 per year)
2nd place: Tyler Powell, Woodridge High School ($3,000 per year)
3rd place: Jamie Viall, Maplewood Career Center ($1,500 per year)

Judges for the high school competition were Catherine Wing, KSU associate professor of English; Ted Lyons, KSU instructor of English; and Katrina Pelow, Wick fellow and graduate student of the Northeast Ohio MFA in Creative Writing Program.

Winners of the undergraduate competition include the following Kent State students, as judged by Joanna Solfrian, 2009 winner of the Stan and Tom Wick Poetry Prize:

1st place: Mark Anthony Zurlo ($1,000)
2nd place: Christian O’Keeffe ($500)
3rd place: Stephen Vanderpool ($250)
1st honorable mention: Natasha Rodriguez
2nd honorable mention: Erin Miller

The  winners of next year's competition will not receive the same monetary awards as the 2011 winners; monetary awards have been adjusted. The revised awards are posted on the Wick website.
