Celebrating Our Own 2012

Please join us for Celebrating Our Own, the 2012 High School and Undergraduate Scholarship Reading, on Sept. 11, 2012, in the Kiva Auditorium at 7:30 p.m.

The scholarship reading will honor the winners of the Wick Poetry Center undergraduate and high school scholarship competitions. The high school competition winners are:
1st place ($12,000): Sarah Ellis from Coventry High School in Akron, Ohio
2nd place ($8,000): Sabra Corea from The Metro School/Hillard Bradley High School in Hillard, Ohio
3rd place ($4,000): Tanaka Mupinga from Field High School in Mogardore, Ohio
1st honorable mention: Brooke Heasley from Maplewood Career Center in Ravenna, Ohio  

The judges for the high school competition were Dr. Major Ragain, Kent State University creative writing instructor; Jack Boyle, Wick Poetry Center graduate fellow; and Jessica Jewell, Ohio poet and 2007 graduate of the NEOMFA.

Winners of the undergraduate competition include the following Kent State students, as judged by Mira Rosenthal 2010 winner of the Stan and Tom Wick Poetry Prize:

1st place ($2,000): Zack Weiss
2nd place ($1,500): Natasha Rodriguez-Carroll
3rd place ($1,000): Tracy Paar
Honorable mention: Mathias Peralta
