Writing Commons and Local High School to Collaborate: Fall 2010 Students enrolled in the Writing Commons tutor-training course "Introduction to Tutorial Practice," will collaborate with students and faculty at Theodore Roosevelt High School in Kent to establish the school's first writing center. Under a grant from the Office of Experiential Education and Civic Engagement, the students and faculty involved in the project will make presentations at local, regional, national and international conferences. The Writing Commons is proud to initiate this campus-community partnership.

Writing Commons Collaborates with the KSU Police to Provide Conflict Management Training: Fall 2010 The Writing Commons will host the Kent State University Police Friday 1/3/2010 at 3 p.m. on the fourth floor of the library. The KSU Police will provide conflict management training for Writing Commons tutors. The event stands as a first of its kind for the Police Department and a unique opportunity for the Writing Commons. Inquiries can be sent to writing@kent.edu in regards to event attendance.

Writing Commons Broadens Services to Meet Needs of KSU Community: Fall 2010 The Writing Commons has expanded its services to meet the growing demand from students and faculty. In addition to scheduled appointments, which begin the third week of classes, new services will be offered - including opening a week early for walk-in appointments and providing a variety of session options to students on campus, or further away ("Online Writing Labs" and "Chat Session").

Writing Commons Makes Contribution to Kent State University Time Capsule: August 2010 On August 10, 2010, The Writing Commons contributed to the Kent State University Time Capsule a 12' x 12' "writing wall" built and filled in by students over the 2009-2010 academic year. The "writing wall" and other materials will be unearthed in 2060.
