Online Writing Lab
About the Online Writing Lab (OWL)
An OWL is an online tutoring session where you e-mail a draft to the Writing Commons (writing@kent.edu) along with some inforamtion about the assignment, and a description of your revision concerns. If all the information we need is in your e-mail, our receptionist will schedule your draft to be read by the next available OWL-certified tutor. You will receive an e-mail letting you know when your paper is scheduled, and your feedback will be e-mailed back to you at the end of the scheduled time.
OWL appointment slots fill up just as quickly as regular appointment slots.
What to Send?
-
Your paper, Power Point, Project, etc. as a standard file format as an attachment.
-
Information about your class (Course Name, #, Teacher).
-
Information about your assignment and what you are trying to accomplish in the draft.
-
2-3 writing concerns you have that the tutor should focus on (These questions should be more than "Is my grammar good?" or "How is my Thesis?" Try to ask questions that will allow us to read in specific, useful ways such as "I had a hard time developing my supporting points; how well do they connect to my thesis?" or "The opposing view was difficult for me to write about; do you feel I represented both sides of the argument well?")
