The Department of Psychology at Kent State University boasts a productive faculty and a friendly and stimulating intellectual environment. Graduate students have the opportunity to work closely with faculty who are internationally recognized for their research in areas such as health, stress, human and animal cognition, psychophysiology, psychopathology, clinical assessment, and development.  In a recent report, our APA-accredited clinical psychology program was ranked 7th in total scholarly productivity out of 166 other APA-accredited programs. Graduates of our clinical and experimental programs have been highly successful in obtaining academic research positions upon completion of the Ph.D.

The Department of Psychology is located in Kent Hall, a historic ivy-lined building on the rolling, tree-covered front campus of Kent State University. In 2005, Kent Hall was completely modernized and the Kent Hall Annex was constructed to accommodate the department's growth. Kent Hall and Kent Hall Annex house research laboratories, an animal research facility, the Psychological Clinic, the Applied Psychology Center, faculty and student offices, graduate student computer labs, and technology-equipped classrooms.

Kent State University is a large public university located in Northeast Ohio. With more than 33,000 students combined at the Kent campus and seven regional campuses, Kent State is ranked among the nation’s top 77 public research universities demonstrating high research activity by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching.

 

Easy Living Within Reach of the City

ksupicsThe university is located in Kent, Ohio (pop'n 30,000), a city that offers many of the advantages of a small community, such as a low crime rate, plentiful and affordable housing, and minimal traffic congestion. Kent is within a short drive of the culinary and recreational offerings of Akron (11 miles) and Cleveland (33 miles).

Among the many attractions of the area are the Blossom Music Center, summer home of the Cleveland Orchestra and site of numerous pop and rock concerts. The area offers excellent professional and community theater; a ballet company; parks and recreation areas such as the Cuyahoga Valley National Recreation Area and Lake Erie; hiking, biking, and running trails; zoos; major museums of art and history; independent cinema; amusement parks, golf courses, not to mention both the NFL and Rock and Roll Halls of Fame. Northeast Ohio is ethnically diverse and holds numerous cultural festivals throughout the year. For fitness enthusiasts, the university has a state-of-the-art athletic complex free for student use. Sports fans can enjoy KSU's Division-1 athletics programs and professional sports teams such as the Cavaliers, Indians, Browns, and the minor league Akron Aeros.
