Welcome to the 2020 FIRST Tech Challenge SKYSTONE! This event is held in the Kent State Student Center Ballroom. You may submit compass and promote awards using the link on the left up until Thursday, January 14, 2020. Parking for the event is in the Kent Student Center Visitor's Lot. Parking is free on weekends and after 6 pm on Friday. Overflow parking is in the Schwartz center parking lot. Click the Directions to Campus link on the left for links to parking maps. "It’s much more than building robots. FIRST Tech Challenge teams (10+ members, grades 7-12) are challenged to design, build, program, and operate robots to compete in a head-to-head challenge in an alliance format. Participants call it “the hardest fun you’ll ever have!” Guided by adult Coaches and Mentors, students develop STEM skills and practice engineering principles (like keeping an engineering notebook), while realizing the value of hard work, innovation, and sharing ideas. The robot kit is reusable from year-to-year and can be programmed using a variety of languages, including Java. Teams also must raise funds, design and market their team brand, and do community outreach for which they can win awards. Participants have access to tens of millions of dollars in college scholarships. Each season concludes with Super-Regional Championships and an exciting FIRST Championship."--FIRST website at

  • 3:00pm-8:00pm Venue set up
  • 5:00pm Volunteers report
  • 6:00pm Doors open to Teams
  • 7:30pm System Tests (Field, AV, sound system)
  • 6:00-8:40pm Early registration and inspections for teams
  • 9:00pm Doors close for the evening


  • 7:00am Volunteers report
  • 7:30 Team check-in begins (please check-in at least 30 minutes prior to judging time)
  • 8:00-10:00am Judging
  • 10:15am Drivers meeting
  • 10:30am Opening ceremonies
