February 11

The idea of Liberty has been part of the philosophical and political debate since ancient times. It is a fundamental concept and value that has accompanied the evolution of civilization. Although Liberty is a universal principle, our understanding of Liberty has been constantly evolving in response to different historical circumstances. The paradox of remaining constant while continually renewing itself is one of the traits that has allowed liberty to endure. The story of Liberty is very well captured by visual portrayals of the idea. This provocative lecture will illustrate the steps of this ideological metamorphosis through a focus on figurative representations of Liberty. Join Dr. Marcello Fantoni, Vice Provost for Global Education, for an exploration liberty in pictures.
