Aviation Hackathon #SkyHack Sponsorship | College of Aeronautics and Engineering | Kent State University

Help define the future of aviation. SkyHack will be the nation’s first collegiate hackathon focused on the challenges facing the aviation industry.

Over the course of the weekend, students will establish interdisciplinary teams, develop ideas, produce prototypes, ideate, and pitch their ideas to a panel of judges for a chance to win financial awards including a $10,000 grand prize. The large scale event will host more than 200 student participants from universities, including Aviation Accreditation Board International (AABI) and Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) programs across the nation.  It will be a fun and creative way for students to focus on generating real-world applications and solutions to address timely industry needs. Volunteer mentors from industry and academic institutions  will be on hand throughout the weekend to provide consultation and support.

Due to the breadth of the aviation field, Kent State is partnering with the aviation industry to explore and identify industry challenges that students will address over the course of an intensive weekend. Possible innovation focus areas include the following: Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) and Vehicles (UAV), air traffic management improvements, engineering efficiency challenges, public health/sanitation in the passenger cabin, financial efficiency challenges, improving the airline passenger experience and improving the pilot experience.

Why Sponsor?

Hackathons attract motivated students from all disciplines, to contribute their expertise and creativity, to a team focused on finding a solution to an industry challenge. Hackathons are rapidly replacing the traditional career fair. Get to know the next generation of innovators and makers as they work to create solutions for critical challenges facing the Aeronautics industry.

The most successful partners in hackathons participate in several ways:

  • Bring Mentors – Technical mentors from all disciplines connect best with our attendees and often function as great recruiters. A mentor that can help solve an attendee’s project and make a lasting impression on a student.
  • Bring Tech – Provide technology and products for students to have hands-on access to your materials.
  • Send Swag – Allows for great brand recognition for your company or organization.

Sponsoring a Challenge Stream

As a Cirrus sponsor, your organization will have the opportunity to create a unique challenge stream. This will allow your organization to work with SkyHack leadership to tailor a specific prize for a pain point your organization sees facing the industry. Of the sponsorship, $1,000 will be dedicated to funding the prize for your challenge stream. Additionally, your organization’s volunteers will partner to help select the winning team in your category.
