Dear Kent State Community: 

I am pleased to announce that our search committee, chaired by Dr. Mandy Munro-Stasiuk, Interim Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences,  has identified three outstanding candidates for the Vice President of Regional Campuses and Dean of the College of Applied and Technical Studies at Kent State University. As part of the interview process, each candidate will hold a virtual public presentation. After providing a brief introductory background, the candidates will discuss challenges facing higher education especially in the context of a regional campus system as well as the future of regional campuses an an Applied Technical Studies College. Following the candidates' presentations, attendees will be invited to pose questions to the candidates. 

I invite and encourage you to attend the following public presentations and provide your input through the surveys below. For the safety of our candidates and the Kent State Community, all interview activities will be conducted remotely.

Dear Colleagues,

I am pleased to announce that we have launched a national search for the Vice President for Regional Campuses and Dean of the College of Applied and Technical Studies. Please note that the position title has changed from vice president of kent state system integration to vice president for regional campuses in order to more accurately reflect the position. Additionally, it has been decided to combine the role of vice president for regional campuses and dean of the college of applied and technical studies. I would like to give my deepest gratitude to Dr. David Dees and Dr. Susan Stocker who have been filling this role in the interim in addition to their responsibilities as dean and chief administrative officers of Kent State University at Columbiana County Campuses and Ashtabula Campus, respectively. 

The vice president for regional campuses is the senior officer responsible for the oversight of Kent State's seven regional campuses and the College of Applied and Technical Studies. The vice president serves on the President's Cabinet, enhancing the voice of the regional campuses and ensuring that the perspectives of the regional campuses inform discussions and decision-making.

In addition to the role as vice president for regional campuses, this position will also take on the role of Dean of the College of Applied and Technical Studies. In this dual role, the incumbent will serve as the principal administrator for the college, including responsibilities of personnel, general administration and management, budget, academic, and development functions.

The successful candidate will hold a terminal degree from an accredited institution, eight years progressively responsible experience in a similarly sized university or comparable institution, as well as three or more years of senior level administrative experience. If applicable the individual may be awarded to a faculty appointment congruent to their academic record. The position will begin on January 1, 2020. 

Dr. Mandy Munro-Stasiuk, interim dean of the college of arts & sciences, will chair the search committee. I am thankful for Dr. Munro-Stasiuk and members of the search committee for their willingness to assist in recruiting our next vice president for regional campuses and dean of the college of applied and technical studies.

Vice President for Regional Campuses and Dean of the College of Applied and Technical Studies Job Description

Position Description

Kent State thrives by combining diverse missions within one university and is seeking a leader who is comfortable with leading multiple campuses with differing cultures and missions. The Vice President for Regional Campuses and Dean of the College of Applied and Technical Studies will be charged with overseeing and providing leadership for the administrative structure of the regional campus system. The successful candidate will be someone who can develop clusters of activity and resource sharing among the Kent State campuses to facilitate program collaboration, cost-saving measures, and more effective use of resources. This includes ensuring curricular integration across all campuses and academic colleges to ensure a common foundation for all students as they proceed with their major programs. The ideal candidate will be able to engage with communities where the campuses are located to foster partnerships and economic development. In addition to the portfolio of the Vice President for Regional Campuses, this position also holds the title of Dean of the College of Applied and Technical Studies. As Dean of the College of Applied and Technical Studies, this position will serve as the principal administrator for the college, including responsibilities of personnel, general administration and management, budget, academic, and development functions. 

Duties and Functions

Vice President for Regional Campuses:

  • Provide leadership and advocacy for the development of long- and short-term goals for the regional campuses.
  • Serve as a senior officer of the university, representing the regional campus system, by participating in strategy development, fostering positive employee relations, actively engaging in diversity initiatives, and participating in key university events.
  • Responsible for enrollment and effective administration of the regional campus system.
  • Oversee the general operations of the regional campuses related to budget development and approval; oversee regional campus leadership (deans).
  • Maintain general coordination among campuses related to organizational structure, student fees, and general operating procedures.
  • Provide overall leadership for, and in collaboration with, offices responsible for establishing and maintaining effective university relations with external constituencies including students, parents, local communities and government.
  • Assist in formulating, administering, and ensuring compliance with university policies and procedures.
  • Conduct regular meetings with regional campus deans, assistant deans, and the Regional Campus Faculty Advisory Council to address common regional issues and share information.
  • Preside over regional student appeals of campus decisions.
  • Represent regional campuses/regional campus deans at various campus, division, and university committees; serve as a member of the President’s Cabinet; represent the regional campuses on appropriate university bodies, committees, and councils.
  • Utilize the university’s expertise to serve the educational and economic development needs of the communities served by the regional campuses; encourage development and collaboration of entrepreneurial academic offerings.
  • Strengthen regional communication and build partnerships through town meetings, community events and advisory boards; ensure effective delivery of programs and services through multi-campus and business partnerships.
  • Participate in Board of Trustees meetings and work with Board committees.

Dean of the College of Applied and Technical Studies:

  • Oversee and provide leadership for the College of Applied and Technical Studies.
  • Serve as principal administrator for the college which includes the responsibility for personnel, general administration and management, budget, academic, and development functions.
  • Provide curricular oversight, including the development and approval of new degrees to ensure compliance with university and specialized accreditation requirements.
  • Serve as the academic unit in the Review, Tenure, and Promotion process of faculty assigned to the College of Applied and Technical Studies as well as overseer of credential approvals for the college’s faculty.
  • Participate in and supervise regional program reviews.
  • Fulfill responsibilities of human resource management including equal opportunity, affirmative action and employee development.
  • Create courses in cognate academic disciplines and professional fields which provide the necessary base for the career goals of students and faculty.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

The preferred candidate will hold a terminal degree from an accredited institution; eight years progressively responsible experience in a similarly sized university or comparable institution, including three or more years of senior level administrative experience. If applicable, the individual may be appointed to a faculty appointment congruent to their academic record. Must possess a broad institutional perspective and have excellent budgeting/finance and planning skills, as well as a proactive style of leadership that encourages teamwork and interaction.

Salary

The salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
