Why Choose Kent State

Find out what international students
love about Kent State

New first-year undergraduate international applicants must finish secondary school in their home country by the time of enrollment to be eligible for university. If you have already enrolled in a post-secondary (higher education) institution, then you are required to apply as a transfer student.

The admission requirements and deadlines differ from program to program. Please review our guide and check the Graduate Studies website for the latest updates.

Applicants are considered transfer students if they have ever taken post-secondary or college level courses or been enrolled in a post-secondary (higher education) institution. Any student previously enrolled in a higher education institution cannot apply as a new first year student.

If you are only interested in learning English and do not intend to enter a degree program, Kent’s ESL Center offers several programs that provide intensive English language instruction to international students.

Kent State is proud to host incoming students who are already enrolled at a higher education institution which has nominated them to study with Kent State for an exchange program of a semester or academic year.

Many American universities have a school mascot – a symbol that cheers on our sports teams and rallies us together for support, comradery, and celebration. Kent State’s mascot is a bald eagle called Flash, and you’ll frequently see him pop up around campus (and our website!). Keep a lookout for his little sidekick, the black squirrel, an animated form of the real ones that are frequently seen frolicking around campus.
