Alumni Day of Service - Frequently Asked Questions

Can family and friends participate? What can I do if a site is full? Get all of your Alumni Day of Service questions answered here.

I don't see a project in my area. How can I get involved?
Volunteer service sites are updated as they are confirmed. Please check back to see if a site has been added in your area.  If you would like to organize an activity, you can find more information by clicking here.

Can family and friends participate in an Alumni Day of Service Project?
Absolutely! We hope that members of the Kent State family of all ages will participate. Designated service sites appropriate for children will be noted as such. Children are encouraged to participate with the permission of their parents. Parents/guardians must complete a waiver for children under the age of 18.

What if the site I want to register for is full?
We hope you might consider registering for another Day of Service site in your area, but if you feel a strong connection to a particular site which is full, please contact the alumni association at 888-320-5368. Sites may have wait lists in case of cancellations. You can also consider organizing your own project. Click here to learn more.

May children participate?
Designated service sites appropriate for children will be noted as such. Children are encouraged to participate with the permission of their parents. Parents/guardians must complete a waiver for children under the age of 18.

What if I want to donate money rather than time?
Don't have time to volunteer but still want to make a difference? Make a donation and support a Kent State student.

What qualifies as service?
Quite a lot! Cleaning up parks, volunteering at shelters, collecting food for a food bank but also helping any part of your community that needs a hand. You can also participate in Alumni Day of Service on your own. Coach your children’s Little League team? That counts. Volunteer at a local animal shelter? That counts, too!  Just share your project with us! We want to recognize the time and energy you are giving back to your community!

May I take photos of alumni to share on social media?
This is a great way to recognize the efforts of you and fellow Golden Flashes and create a sense of camaraderie. Use #FlashesGiveBack to be sure that alumni around the world can see your efforts. Don't forget to send us your photos and story so we can share them on our website and social media accounts.

Does my service site require a waiver to participate?
In order to participate in Alumni Day of Service, all participants must complete an electronic waiver at time of registration.  Some service sites require a volunteer release form. Instructions will be included in your confirmation email sent prior to Alumni Day of Service.

What is a participant packet?
If you register to participate in Alumni Day of Service before April 11, you will receive a free participant packet in the mail.  Your participant packet will include Alumni Day of Service information and a t-shirt to wear.  You must include a mailing address for you and your registered guests to receive a participant packet.
