Shreve Lecture by Professor Fabio Alves on Tuesday April 30th

Investigating Translation in the Brain: the Interface between Metarepresentation and Perspective Taking under Scrutiny

The IAL is pleased to present the tenth lecture in the annual Gregory M. Shreve Lecture Series in Translation Studies, instituted in honor of the IAL’s founding director. The series is made possible through the generosity of alumni, IAL faculty members, and friends of the IAL.

Dr. Fabio Alves is Professor of Translation Studies and Principal Investigator in the Laboratory for Experimentation in Translation (LETRA) at Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG) in Brazil. He holds a PhD in Applied Linguistics from Ruhr-University Bochum, Germany, and was President of the Brazilian Association of Translation Studies (ABRAPT). He carries out empirical-experimental research in cognitive approaches to translation with a focus on expert performance and human-computer interaction in translation. He has published widely in journals such as Target, Meta, Translation and Interpreting, Across Languages and Cultures, and in book series by John Benjamins, Routledge, and Springer.

The lecture will take place in the Moulton Hall ballroom at 3: 30 pm on Tuesday April 30th. The lecture is open to the public and a reception will follows.All are welcome.
