Biosynthesis: The Art of Jonah Jacobs & Betsy Cavalier-Casey

Join us for the opening reception of "Biosynthesis: The Art of Jonah Jacobs & Betsy Cavalier-Casey" on Thursday, Jan.19 from 5-7 pm at Kent State University's Downtown Gallery. The artists connect art and science in a colorful display of paintings, sculptures and installations.

Jonah Jacobs was born in in Denmark but now lives and works in Cleveland Ohio. “My exploration of natural structures has also given rise to an investigation of color, texture, and material. This stems from years of experimentation and careful observance of natural phenomena.” Jacobs has created and installation for the exhibit and will also be displaying several wall mounted sculptures in the gallery.
Betsy Cavalier-Casey received her MFA in Installation Art from Bowling Green State University in 2010 and her BFA in Painting & Drawing from the Myers School of Art at the University of Akron in 2008.  Functioning networks is an ongoing subject for Betsy’s imagery, objects and artistic processes. Her initial motivating source of subject matter stems from a concept within biology, anatomy, network theory, ecology and other fields, called interconnectivity. This concept can be summarized as: Each individual element of a specific system interacts with and relies on the other. Cavalier-Casey will be displaying several large-scale paintings in the gallery.
