“Spirit” is a new body of works by mixed media artist Larrie King. Through acidic colors married with found objects, vintage ephemera, and atmospheric application, King explores a personal retelling of the Icarus story and his connection to the vibrant and ever-changing world around us. On view at the Downtown Gallery (141 E. Main St.) in Kent, Ohio from May 25 - June 24, 2017.  An opening reception will be held at the Downtown Gallery on Thursday, May 25 from 5-7 p.m.

During the lecture she will be talking about everything she learned during her time in Africa and the efforts of the non-profit organization to support jewelers around the world.

Join us for the Foundations program's spring show awards and reception on Wednesday, May 3 from 5-7 p.m. The Foundations Program is a series of courses that reveal the underlying visual rules and artistic strategies that run throughout all of our School's majors. Foundations projects are often faster paced, unpredictable, and are not specific to a particular material or process. Foundations projects frequently challenge students to transform cheap, free, or found materials into extraordinary new compositions and push students to work in new ways.

ARTshop Mother's Day Event

The School of Art at Kent State University is happy to announce the opening of the student-run retail shop, ARTshop.  The ARTshop is open to the public on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 12:00-6:00 p.m. The shop provides a means for students and student groups to sell their artwork to the public.  "The ARTshop on campus allows students to work on entrepreneurial and marketing skills by selling their own artwork and interacting with customers. It's important to for students to show their work to others outside of the art community," said undergraduate, Kayla Ewanko.

Join us for the inaugural BFA Senior Thesis Exhibit Gala on Friday, April 21, 2017 from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. Eighteen senior BFA candidates will be displaying their artwork throughout the entire building at the Center for the Visual Arts. More info and maps TBA. The exhibit will be on view from April 21 – 28, 2017. Both the exhibit and the reception are free and open to the public.

Join us for an artist talk by visiting artist, Mark Fox, at noon in room 165 at the Center for the Visual Arts.  Fox is a mixed-media artist and the juror for the Stratosphere juried art show, a competition for undergraduates at Kent State University that awards students with cash prizes.  Stratosphere is on view at the Downtown Gallery (141 E. Main St.) from April 20 – May 5, 2017.
