The School of Art at Kent State University is proud to host Ohio native, Dr. Maud Lavin, as a guest lecturer on Friday, Nov. 18 at noon. The lecture, titled "Translating and Revisioning the Strange: Cao Fei's Haze and Fog and AMC TV's The Walking Dead" will address the popular American TV series as well as the work of contemporary Chinese artist Cao Fei and her use of zombies in her film "Haze and Fog.”

Material Connection: New Work by Members of the MFAEN opens Nov. 10, 2016 with an opening reception on Saturday, Nov. 12 from 5-7 p.m. at the Downtown Gallery. The Midwest Fiber Art Educators Network (MFAEN) is a professional organization open to all faculty members/professionals teaching at an accredited four year or graduate program in Textiles, Fibers, Material Studies under the rubric of studio art. This exhibition will showcase an array of fiber works from members of MFAEN, coinciding with their annual meeting at Kent State University.

Join us for the opening reception of "Threads: New Work by Janice Lessman-Moss & Rowland Ricketts" on Thursday, Oct. 13 from 5-7 pm. The exhibit features two renowned and innovative textile artists who are united by their interest in expanding the roots of rich traditions in the field. Lessman-Moss creates beautifully complex patterns through digital weaving while Ricketts explores conceptual and technical ideas with indigo dye and hand-woven linen. Catalogs are available.

The Kent State School of Art Collection and Galleries’ Downtown Gallery presents the National Collage Society’s 32nd Annual Juried Exhibition, September 29 - October 29, 2016 with an opening reception on Thursday, September 29th, from 5 to 7 p.m. Both the exhibit and reception are free and open to the public. The artists featured in this exhibit were chosen from a pool of 383 entries from 40 states and 5 countries. There were 56 pieces accepted by the jury.
