Henry Halem: The History of Kent State’s Glass Program

The School of Art is celebrating 50 years of its glass program with exhibitions and lectures this September. The program, one of the first of its kind in the country, was started in 1969 by Henry Halem, professor emeritus and co-founder of the Glass Art Society. A special lecture by Henry Halem about the history of the Kent State glass program and its beginnings will take place on Friday, September 6, 12-1 p.m., Center for the Visual Arts, Room 165. Free and open to the public.

It's the beginning of the semester, so let's get to know each other!  Join us for the School of Art Meet and Greet on Tuesday, August 27 from 1:30-2:30 p.m. in the Center for the Visual Arts Atrium.  We will have free pizza (while supplies last) and don't miss your chance to win a School of Art swag bag in our raffle. We will also have information on important dates and events coming up this semester. This event is open to all School of Art majors and minors, faculty and staff.

Remembering Christine Gorbach: A Teaching Artist

Join us in celebrating the life and artwork of Christine Gorbach. Ms. Gorbach was an accomplished artist and art educator who passed away in 2018.  The exhibition “Remembering Christine Gorbach: A Teaching Artist” will be on view at the Payto Gallery located on the first floor at the Center for the Visual Arts from July 17-26, 2019. An opening reception will take place on Friday, July 19 from 6-8 p.m.  Both the reception and the exhibition are free and open to the public.

Enjoy some of the incredible artwork from the School of Art Collection, which features a wide range of artwork from past students, locally-known artists, and artists of national and international fame. Browse the artworks available for rent in the CVA Gallery, located on the first floor of the Center for the Visual Arts. Kent State employees may rent 1-5 artworks for use at Kent campus locations only. Rental cost is $50 per artwork for the year.
