School of Art Friday Lecture Series November 6, School of Art Auditorium, 12:00 noon Visiting artist Steven Durow (http://www.stevendurow.net/) will speak on his large-scale sculptural installations and other works in glass. Durow currently teaches for the art department at Salisbury University in Maryland. Artist Statement:

Visiting artist Sarah Sutton will present a lecture at noon on Friday, October 23, in the Art Building, room 202. Sarah Sutton received her M.F.A. in painting from Kent State University in 2005 and is currently assistant professor of painting at Ithaca College in Ithaca, New York.

Art for Art's Sake: Art Auction to Raise Funds for the Center for the Visual Arts

325 Terrace Drive, Kent, Ohio Join our special guest, auctioneer Deba Gray of Gray’s Auctioneers, for an art auction featuring dozens of works by some of Kent State’s outstanding faculty and alumni. All proceeds will benefit the Center for the Visual Arts, the new home for the School of Art. The free event will include a reception and art preview prior to the auction, as well as a tour of the completed phase of the Center for the Visual Arts. Object Lessons: The Sculpture of Ted Vogel - Opening Reception

“Object Lessons: The Sculpture of Ted Vogel” will appear at the Kent State University School of Art Gallery Oct. 8 - Nov. 20, with an opening reception Oct. 8 from 5 to 7 p.m. The gallery will also host an artist discussion Oct. 9 from noon to 1 p.m. The exhibit, reception and artist discussion are all free and open to the public.
Pre-Game Arts Preview of the Center for the Visual Arts

Interested in seeing what the Center for the Visual Arts looks like? Join us for the Pre-Game Arts Preview over homecoming weekend! Guided tours of the facilities will feature ongoing demonstrations by faculty, students and returning alumni. See the new studio spaces for ceramics, glass, jewelry/enamel/metals, printmaking and sculpture. Tours begin at the main entrance on Terrace Drive. Architect Jerry Payto (’64) of Payto Architects will be on hand to answer questions and share insight into the building’s innovative design.

MFAEN Miniature Textile Exhibition - Opening Reception

Small-scale textile art will be the subject of an exhibition at Kent State University’s Downtown Gallery, located at 141 E. Main St. in Kent. The Miniature Textile Exhibition, organized through the MFAEN (Midwest Fiber Artist Educators Network), will run Oct. 1-31 at the gallery, with an opening reception Oct. 1 from 5 to 7 p.m. Both the gallery and the reception are free and open to the public.
