The School of Art offers graduate degrees in the fields of art education, art history, and a comprehensive array of studio disciplines including painting, drawing, print media and photography, sculpture, ceramics, glass, jewelry/metals/enameling, and textile arts. We offer the only MFA program in northeast Ohio, and the only public institution in the state of Ohio to offer this breadth of studio specialties.
Graduate Assistantships are available in each major program area and are awarded annually on a competitive basis. The service commitment of a graduate assistant appointment may involve teaching, research, or technical support responsibilities, for an average 20 hours per week. Graduate assistants are required to enroll for a minimum of eight credit hours per semester. Individuals applying for a Graduate Assistantship should contact Linda Hoeptner-Poling to schedule an interview with a faculty person from the area to which they are applying.
The Coordinator of Graduate Studies, Professor Linda Hoeptner-Poling advises all prospective and incoming graduate students and assists them in making initial decisions as to class schedules, studio spaces, and related matters of settling into the MFA and MA programs. Administrative Clerk, Lisa Everson in the School of Art office assists in the admissions and registration processes, along with those processes connected with preparation for graduation (theses, exhibition scheduling, paperwork processing).
Under normal circumstances, graduate students choose their own advisor from among the graduate faculty, based on studio specialty, conceptual goals, and scholarly interests. This graduate faculty advisor guides the composition of the graduate committee and related curricular and programmatic goals in accordance with individual student aims and objectives and in consonance with Graduate School policies and procedures.
Applications must be complete by these dates to be considered for graduate assistantships. International applications completed after the deadline will not be reviewed. Due to the time constraints of the immigration process, International applicants must meet application deadlines.
