Graduate Application Requirements

Application Deadlines:

Fall Admission - February 2
Art Education Fall Deadline - April 15

Spring Admission - September 15

Applications must be complete by these dates to be considered for graduate assistantships.  Applications for the School of Art graduate programs are accepted on a rolling basis.  Priority is given to applicants who meet the above deadlines.  Applications received after the deadlines are accepted as space allows at the discretion of the graduate faculty. 

Graduate assistantships in Art Education and Art History will remain open as space allows. For information concerning graduate assistantships, contact individual program coordinators listed below. 

International applications completed after the deadline will not be reviewed. Due to the time constraints of the immigration process, International applicants must meet application deadlines.

Art History - Graduate Application Requirements

M.A. in Art History

  • Official transcript(s)
  • Goal statement(s)
  • A “statement of purpose” approximately 250 words indicating the proposed area of specialization within the art history curriculum.
  • Three letters of recommendation from persons who are themselves in your proposed area of study or a closely related field.
  • Curriculum vitae 
  • Art History applicants are not required to submit a portfolio.

 

Art Education - Graduate Application Requirements

M.A. in Art Education

  • Official transcript(s)
  • Goal statement(s)
  • Goal statement (250-500 words) that focuses on the philosophy of art education 
  • Three letters of recommendation from persons who are themselves in your proposed area of study or a closely related field.
  • Résumé or curriculum vitae
  • Portfolio - Art Education applicant's portfolio should consist of 25 images including their own work, and the work of their students, if applicable. Applicants must submit a digital portfolio as a single PDF file which will be uploaded as a part of their application to the graduate program.
Studio Art - Graduate Application Requirements

M.F.A. in Studio Art (or M.A. in Fine Arts or Crafts)

  • Official transcript(s)
  • Goal statement
  • Curriculum vitae
  • Artist statement (250-500 words) and a resume that includes exhibitions and relevant experience
  • Portfolio (instructions below)
  • Three letters of recommendation from persons who are themselves in your proposed area of study or a closely related field.

Portfolio submission:

Studio Art applicants are required to submit a digital portfolio that shows an emphasis in the proposed area of studio interest. The portfolio should consist of 20 images and must be presented in a single PDF file under 10 MB with title, date, media, and size included for each image.  To achieve this, we suggest making a PowerPoint or Keynote presentation with one image per slide and exporting the slideshow as a PDF. Each image should be no more than 1500 pixels on the longest side.
