Fall Admission - February 2
Art Education Fall Deadline - April 15 for assistantship consideration; June 12 for entry into program

Applications must be complete by these dates.

Required materials for applications in the School of Art Graduate Programs:

Art History - Graduate Application Requirements

M.A. in Art History

  • Official transcript(s)
  • Goal statement (approximately 250 words indicating the proposed area of specialization within the art history curriculum.
  • Three letters of recommendation from persons who are themselves in your proposed area of study or a closely related field.
  • Curriculum vitae 
  • Art History applicants are not required to submit a portfolio.

Art Education - Graduate Application Requirements

M.A. in Art Education

  • Official transcript(s)
  • Goal statement (250-500 words) that focuses on the philosophy of art education. 
  • Three letters of recommendation from persons who are themselves in your proposed area of study or a closely related field.
  • Curriculum vitae
  • Portfolio - Art Education applicant's portfolio should consist of 25 images, including their own work and the work of their students, if applicable. Applicants must submit a digital portfolio as a single PDF file which will be uploaded as a part of their application to the graduate program.

Studio Art - Graduate Application Requirements

M.F.A. or M.A. in Studio Art

Application requirements:

• Official transcript(s)

• Goal statement (250-500 words) indicating your reasons for applying to Kent State University’s Master’s Program in Studio Art and motivations for pursuing this degree in your chosen area of concentration.

• Curriculum vitae that includes exhibitions and relevant experience

• Artist statement (250-500 words) Describe the major themes in your work, how you formalize those themes, and the concepts and artists that influence you.

• Three letters of recommendation from persons who are themselves in your proposed area of study or a closely related field.

• A portfolio of 20 images with title, medium, dimensions and date
