International students make up an important part of the art community at Kent State University. Approximately 2,500 international students from nearly 100 countries are currently enrolled at KSU. As you engage in our international student admissions process, you will see why so many students choose to come to our school. APPLICATION DEADLINES

Fall: February 2

Spring: September 15

Summer: We do not accept International applications for this term.           

Late Application:

  • We do not consider Spring applications after the deadline.
  • We will consider Fall applications after the deadline if there is still space in the program.

Conditional Admission Policy:

Does this program consider applicants for conditional admission when:

  • Applicant lacks an IELTS/TOEFL score: NO
  • Applicant has a lower IELTS/TOEFL score than the required minimum for admission: NO

ADMISSIONS REQUIREMENTS

1.  Statements of varying emphasis and resumes are required for students applying in all programs.

Art Education Majors:  Submit a philosophy of art education statement of between 250-500 words.

Studio Art Majors: Submit a 250-500 word artist statement that includes your area of studio concentration and research interests along with a resume that includes exhibitions, publications, and relevant experience.

Art History Majors: Submit a 250-300 word goals statement which includes your area of research interest.

2.  Three letters of recommendation from persons who are themselves in your proposed area of study.

3.  A portfolio that shows an emphasis in the proposed area of studio interest.

  • Studio Art M.F.A, Fine Arts M.A. and Crafts M.A. applicants are required to submit a digital portfolio that shows an emphasis in the proposed area of studio interest. The portfolio should consist of 20 color images and must be presented in a single PowerPoint presentation file with title,   date, media, and size included on each slide. The file must be under 15M and optimized for web viewing. Applicants must submit a digital portfolio through the School of Art Graduate Portfolio Submission form: http://fs17.formsite.com/tmahon/GradAppPortfolio/index.html Portfolios that do not meet the listed requirements or files not submitted via the online link will not be accepted.   • Art Education applicant's portfolio should consist of 25 images including their own work, and the work of their students if applicable. Applicants must submit a digital portfolio through the School of Art Graduate Portfolio Submission form: http://fs17.formsite.com/tmahon/GradAppPortfolio/index.html Portfolios that do not meet the listed requirements or files not submitted via the online link will not be accepted.   • Art History applicants are not required to submit a portfolio.

4. English Language Proficiency Requirements for International Students:

All international students must provide proof of English language proficiency (unless they meet specific exceptions) by earning a minimum 550 TOEFL score (79 on the Internet-based version), minimum 77 MELAB score, minimum 6.5 IELTS score or minimum 58 PTE Academic score. For more information on international admission, visit the Office of Global Education’s admission website. Note: GREs are not required by The School of Art.
