Breanne Trammell and Alex Strader at the BOX Gallery

The BOX Gallery in downtown Akron is hosting two solo shows from June 2 through July 1, 2017: Keep Your Eye On The Donut Not The Hole by Breanne Trammell (Assistant Professor in Print Media) and Graphic Thrills by Alex Strader (recent MAT graduate in Art Education). Come see the shows and meet the artists at the opening reception on Fri., June 2 from 5-8 pm at the BOX Gallery (140 E. Market St. Akron, Ohio).

Breanne Trammell is a multi-disciplinary artist with a background in printmaking. She received her MFA from the Rhode Island School of Design and has been an artist-in-residence at the Women’s Studio Workshop, the Wassaic Project, Endless Editions, the Kala Institute, and Kimmel Harding Nelson Center for the Arts.

Alex Strader works with both mixed media and digital work, often with original characters. His work is loosely based on real life experiences with a mix of dreams, music, fiction, and pop culture. He also explores themes of suffering and the expanding neuroticism of 21st century society, albeit in a humorous and often abstract way. He graduated from Kent State University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2012 and a Master of Arts in Teaching in 2017.

“I’ve always been interested in characters, both real and imaginary. Everyone has a personality they craft over time, just like a drawing or a painting. The best part is, the variations are endless. For me, I’m just happy I found a balance of using both my art training and the sensibilities I crafted as a child. I feel like I didn’t waste my time reading MAD Magazine, studying more than anything. I think that’s what people ultimately look for in life.”
