J. Leigh Garcia Featured in Akron Life and Juxtapoz

Artist J. Leigh Garcia in her studio
J. Leigh Garcia was featured on the cover of the September issue of Akron Life Magazine. Garcia was one of five artists interviewed for the article "Visionaries" that focuses on local artists who use their artwork to raise awareness about issues important to them. Following the roots of her own biracial ancestry, Garcia explores the complex relationship between Texans and Mexicans—particularly, the racialization and displacement of unauthorized Latinx immigrants.

She was also recently featured in Juxtapoz magazine in an online article and in the fall print issue, featured in the "In Session" segment. In Juxtapoz, Garcia talks about how the pandemic and the spring lockdown effected her teaching and artistic practice.
