Janice Lessman-Moss at Praxis Fiber Workshop

Janice Lessman-Moss weaving for Rhythms and RotationsJanice Lessman-Moss, Professor and head of Textiles, has a new exhibition “Rhythms and Rotations” showing at Praxis Fiber Workshop from February 2 through March 31, 2018.  Two opening receptions are scheduled for the show, February 2 and March 2 from 5-7 p.m. Gallery hours are Wednesdays & Sundays from noon to 4pm or by appointment by emailing gallery@praxisfiberworkshop.org.

Woven on single threaded looms and jacquards power looms, her compositions evolve from a template of simple geometric shapes that then have been sub-divided into smaller units using a computer to generate her ideas. Through a sequence of improvised selection, new configurations are revealed, that in turn, form the foundation for successive layers of patterns.

“Pattern, as an abstract system, is a source for meaning in my work. With roots in nature, culture, and process, networks of motifs provide beauty, function, and a platform for poetic association,” said Lessman-Moss.  Learn more about her work on her website.
