Jonas Sebura Exhibition at Holding House

Jonas Sebura, professor in Sculpture has an exhibition opening at the Holding House in Detroit along with his collaborative partner, Alex Gartelmann. Sebura&Gartelmann’s solo exhibition Two Men Walk Into a Bar uses their collaboration as  a platform to examine issues of personal communication, physical contact and social expectations of masculinity.  The joke as a aesthetic form acts as a loose framework; slapstick, irony, and humor allow meaning to develop slowly and assists in subverting the viewer’s expectations of material and process.

Sebura&Gartelmann met while working toward their MFA at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and have been collaborating since 2009. They have exhibited work throughout the United States in various venues including Antenna Gallery in New Orleans, The Kohler Art Center, The University of the Arts in Philadelphia, and the Carrie Secrist Gallery in Chicago, IL . Their work has been included in various exhibitions on themes of loss, impermanence, and home.

The exhibition will be on view from October 13, 2017 through November 11, 2017 and will be showing during the SculptureX Symposium: Value Added
