Peter Christian Johnson at Ferrin Contemporary

Assistant Professor in Ceramics, Peter Christian Johnson, will be having a solo exhibit at the Ferrin Contemporary from Nov. 18 - Dec. 31, 2016.  Ferrin Contemporary, a contemporary ceramic art gallery, is located on the campus of MASS MoCA in North Adams, MA.  POISE: Peter Christian Johnson will feature Johnson's most recent work.  The exhibit will be accompanied by a visiting artist lecture given by Johnson at Harvard University on Thursday, Nov. 17 from 5:30-6:30 pm.

“POISE explores the tension between acts of labor and collapse, between precision and failure.  It is a meditation on entropy that uses Gothic cathedrals as a foil to examine the dichotomy of beauty and loss. For this exhibition Johnson has created a series of highly organized architectural forms based on the floor plans of historic cathedrals. These forms are distorted and deconstructed under the weight of the glaze in an attempt to find virtue in brokenness.” — Peter Christian Johnson
