Valerie Marek Buynak received her B.F.A. from the Cleveland Institute of Art and her M.F.A. from Kent State University in 2017, where she also served as a Graduate Teaching Assistant for two years teaching Foundation Drawing classes.
She has exhibited at the Blue Bluff Gallery in Akron, the Summit Artspace in Akron, ASM International in Cleveland, Kent State University Center for Visual Arts, the Massillon Art Museum as well as the Oak Park Art League in Chicago.
Her art practice focuses on overlapping tenses and its conversation with silent and wordless experiences. Her work, primarily on paper, uses fumage (candle soot), photograms and handwriting in the context of visual expressions of loss.
Valerie also makes artist’s books with her own poetry and narratives.
