Welcome from the Director
Welcome to the School of Art at Kent State University!
The School of Art is an inventive place where many fields of the fine arts and the liberal arts come together to share inspiration. Artists combining traditional methods of creating with technology have made previously unimaginable concepts wholly possible. This idea serves as a home to artists whose practices encompass this developing complementary approach; a home to creative thinkers who imagine the future and critical thinkers who question the direction of humanity; a home to a community that critiques, engages, and synthesizes constantly changing technology, viewpoints, and culture into their vision and craft.
Our faculty and students take part in this creative inquiry and are frequently risk-takers, challenging commonly held beliefs. With the support of the creative and critical inquiry that we uphold, our students are able to pursue their vision, communicate with targeted audiences, and impact the global community.
Our faculty are all practicing artists and scholars, who provide an intense, professional learning environment where students enjoy close ties with their instructors and each other. Students, faculty, and staff contribute regularly to the University and to Kent’s creative communities.
The School of Art offers programs leading to BA, BFA, MA, and MFA degrees in a variety of areas, including Art Education, Art History, Ceramics, Drawing, Glass, Painting, Jewelry/Metals/Enameling, Print Media and Photography, Sculpture and Expanded Media, and Textiles. Our 325+ undergraduate majors combine intensive study in their areas of professional concentration with rigorous liberal arts coursework offered by Kent Core.
The Graduate Program, attracting students from both the U.S. and abroad, has been nationally recognized by U.S. News and World Report as a premier institution for graduate education in art.
