Why Art?

The School of Art at Kent State University offers one of the largest and most comprehensive university art programs in the state of Ohio. An accredited member of
the National Association of Schools of Art and Design, we offer degree programs in art education, art history and studio art, helping to foster the creative and entrepreneurial spirit needed for success as a professional in the arts. Our students are critical thinkers and independent learners, and our alumni worldwide go on to transform lives through the arts.

We offer a wide array of studio concentrations: ceramics, drawing, glass, jewelry/metals/enameling, painting, print media and photography, sculpture, and textiles.

Undergraduate and graduate degrees are offered in all areas.  Undergrads begin with our Foundations program, which is a series of courses that reveal the underlying visual rules and artistic strategies that run throughout all of our School's majors.

The School of Art at Kent State University offers a long tradition of imagination, thought, skill, and achievement in the visual arts. For its students, both current and future, its alumni and its many friends, the School of Art continues to explore ideas, provide the highest standards of craft, and stimulate individual and collective creativity, teaching, and research through its programs, curriculum, and exhibitions.
