Passing test scores on the three (3) Praxis I Competencies (or their equivalents) must be on file in 304 White Hall PRIOR TO submission of Application for Admission to Advanced Study. In other words, apply one semester before the term you plan to start Professional Course Work. The application can be found at the Vacca Office of Student Services website.

Praxis I: Taken by students for advanced study standing in the College of Education. Praxis I Academic Skills Assessments are designed to be taken EARLY (it is suggested the test be taken during ARTE 31001 or during the breaks after this first course in Art Education) in a student’s college career to measure reading, mathematics, and writing skills. Test format, registration information, cost, related web sites, and testing dates can be accessed through the Educational Testing Service or the College of Education, Health and Human Services. Do not delay in registration--spots fill quickly. It is highly recommended that you purchase and use the study guide (available via the ETS web site). Check the EHHS website for online review modules.

Praxis II: This is not required for graduation but because it is required for licensure, you will benefit by having completed this test before student teaching (it is suggested that you take the Praxis II test during the semester you take ARTE 41003). Praxis II Subject Assessments (for art education majors: Visual Art) measure candidates’ knowledge of the subjects they will teach, as well as general and subject-specific pedagogical skills and knowledge. Test format, registration information, cost, related web sites, and testing dates can be accessed through Educational Testing Service or the College of Education, Health and Human Services. Do not delay in registration—spots fill quickly. It is highly recommended that you purchase and use the study guide (available in 221 White Hall and available via the ETS web site).
