“Between Individual and Society: Social Justice Through Fashion” March 23 - 25 in Kent, Ohio | March 26 - 27 in Cleveland, Ohio https://www.iffticonference.com. The 22nd Annual IFFTI 2020 Conference will be a medium for dialogue focused on fashion’s role in personal and community expressions of social justice, activism, inclusivity, design responsibility, technology, media, and business. Fashion is an essential conduit of communication about who we are as individuals, what we believe in as a group, and is often emblematic of changes in social policy. The 22nd Annual IFFTI 2020 Conference will be a medium for dialogue centered on the powerful opportunity that the fashion industry and academia have to help shape a just and sustainable future. Using the May 4 Visitors Center as a catalyst for addressing social justice themes, the conference will be a sharing of knowledge, opinions, observations, and research that directly relate to culture in a local and global society, technology applications, style, branding, communication, consumerism, retail, and manufacturing. The theme of the conference seeks to examine and challenge fashion’s role in personal and community expressions of social justice, activism, inclusivity, design responsibility, technology, media, and business. This theme and subthemes are applicable to both theoretical and practice-based research. Traditional paper submissions, as well as creative practice-based research, will be presented. Grounded in original, thoughtful and diverse research, the proposals for papers, mini-installations, short films, short performances, alternative posters, or individual pieces will seek to explore the connections between fashion as a medium in support of social protest and provocations. From the subthemes, groups within the conference will be organized around paper sessions as well as discussion groups thus encouraging dynamic and interactive conversation.
