Kent State Opera Presents Opera Scenes in November

The Hugh A. Glauser School of Music will present a program of opera scenes on Nov. 17 at 7:30 pm and 18 at 3 pm in Wright-Curtis Theatre in The Center for the Performing Arts, 1325 Theatre Drive at Kent State University.  Parking is free.

 

The Kent State Opera’s fall scenes program directed by Marla Berg and music directed by Jay White entitled, "Marriage Inside Out," includes 3 exciting scenes that depict telling moments in the lives of various marriages. Featuring Act III of Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro when the Count and Countess Almaviva struggle to cope with infidelity and potential reconciliation while we see Figaro and Susanna, very much in love, get married.  The program will also feature a scene from Berlioz's Beatrice and Benedict highlighting the love of Hero and Claudio and the combative relationship of Beatrice and Benedict develop into shared love.

 

Finally, a world premiere of a one-act opera by Kent State music education student Scott Little. The opera is based on the short story by Kate Chopin; The Story of an Hour. Little worked with Cleveland area librettist Tim Tibbitts. Featured will be five Kent State vocal performance students and a School of Music student oboe quintet.

 

The production will feature conductors Karen Ni Bhrion and Tori Petrak along with pianist Vicky Tong.
