Associate of Applied Science in Human Services Technology

If you have a genuine concern for others and enjoy working with people, perhaps you should consider a career in human services.Kent State University's associate's degree program in human services technology can prepare you to provide social services and to advocate for people who need assistance. The associate's degree is granted after the successful completion of 66 semester hours of coursework. By concentrating the majority of your studies in technical and related coursework, you are prepared in a short time to enter the work world.

Many of the credits earned in the associate's degree program can be applied toward a bachelor's degree. Instead of specializing in one or two therapeutic approaches, you will be trained in general helping techniques that will enable you to work in a variety of service settings, such as mental health centers, nursing homes, mental retardation programs, child and family welfare agencies and substance abuse treatment programs.

The core courses in the human services technology program provide a solid foundation in case management and client advocacy. You will learn skills to prepare you for beginning, pre-professional practice in human services, through classroom instruction and supervised internships in local social service agencies.
