Support Kent State Ashtabula

Dear Alumni and Friends,

Dean Stocker

Kent State University at Ashtabula has been providing higher education opportunities to residents of Northeast Ohio for more than 60 years! We are an innovative 21st century university with highly qualified and experienced faculty, state-of-the-art labs and classrooms and in-demand academic programs. Our students recognize the opportunity that only a quality education can bring and our graduates are well prepared with the necessary skills and knowledge needed to be competitive in the workplace, enhancing economic growth and stability in the communities where they live and work.

Unfortunately, for many students, a college education is seemingly out of reach.  Financial constraints, combined with family responsibilities, keep bright, promising students from pursuing higher education.  In fact, financial issues are the single largest barrier to students seeking the benefits of a higher education.  Scholarships and financial assistance are the keys to open the door – providing students with access to excellence and the chance to create a brighter future for themselves and their families!

We are so grateful for your support of our campus. Through your gifts, Kent State Ashtabula can provide the best possible environment for students to grow and learn. Please join us as we work to ensure every student’s success.

Sincerely,

Susan J. Stocker, Ph.D.
Dean and Chief Administrative Officer

Rising Scholars Fund - Regional students may face many barriers, including generational poverty, lack of role models and insufficient academic preparation. The Rising Scholars program works to help Ashtabula area students, beginning in the seventh grade, find a path toward higher education and careers.  Scholars are mentored by college students from Kent State Ashtabula and participate in year-round workshops that expose them to mentors, community leaders, businesses, organizations and educators who want them to succeed.

Ashtabula Transformation Fund - Bright, engaged and interactive campus spaces can have a profound impact on a student’s ability to learn.  Driven by the Students First philosophy, renovations and revitalizations of spaces will result in a comprehensive 21st century campus – modernizing classrooms and laboratories, improving safety and accessibility and creating student-centric spaces where collaboration and research can take place.

Last Dollar Scholarship Fund - Supporting students when they experience unexpected financial hardships can make the difference between a student earning a degree or not.  Small grants are awarded through this program to help prevent personal or financial emergencies from breaking a student’s academic momentum.

Dean’s Development Fund -  Gifts made to support students, programs, faculty and staff have a broad impact on our campus and area community and provide support in the areas of greatest need.  These gifts make transformative learning experiences possible for students, advance research for our faculty and provide opportunities.

Your choices of where and how to support Kent State students, our vision and our mission are endless, and include a variety of scholarships and programs. These university-wide key initiatives impact a large population of our students and your gift will make an immediate and lasting impact.

Emergency Grant Fund supports students during pandemic - With the multitude of challenges related to the COVID-19 pandemic, thousands of students and their families are encountering unexpected financial challenges associated with travel, food, housing, technology needs and, in some cases, lost wages by both the student and parents. “Our students need us now more than ever,” said Kent State President Todd Diacon. “I am confident our Golden Flash family will answer that call, because despite the uncertainty we are all facing at this time, there is one thing that remains constant: Flashes Take Care of Flashes.”

Scholarships put students first - At Kent State, we have a laser focus on ensuring that students have the education, experiences and support they need to graduate and to live successful, meaningful lives. Our deep and unwavering commitment to putting Students First has guided the development of strategies and a culture that welcomes all students with open arms and pushes them to become more than they ever imagined. Raising funds to align with scholarship needs is our first priority at Kent State, and ensures we support our students from the day they receive their letter of acceptance, to the day they receive their degree.

Study abroad experiences - Every student—regardless of their age, means or area of interest—should have the opportunity to receive a global education. That’s why we offer education abroad scholarships to students of all majors. Your gift can help open up a world that students didn’t even know existed. Study abroad opportunities are some of the most direct and effective ways to transform a student’s life for the better, empowering students to engage in once-in-a-lifetime opportunities for study, research and exploration. We encourage students of all majors to expand their worldview through studying abroad in one of our programs in more than 60 countries, and we see tremendous interest in participating in these experiences. Many students just can't afford to do so without financial support.

College of Public Health develops health care leaders, innovations - Through teaching, research and service, the College of Public Health is living out its mission to develop public health leaders and promote public health innovations in collaboration with community partners both locally and globally. Together, our faculty, staff and students are making tremendous impacts on the health of those on our campuses, regionally, across the country and around the world. Our graduates are needed now more than ever to address global health concerns.
